Framing Childhood Creativity: Baby Bird Art Project
Celebrating the Art of Childhood
At JW Frame Crafters, some of our favorite projects are the ones that capture imagination at its purest. This colorful baby bird artwork was lovingly crafted by a grandchild and framed by their grandmother, who wanted to preserve and showcase their creativity. Children’s art projects are more than paper and glue—they are milestones, memories, and reflections of how they see the world. By framing them, families transform fleeting moments into lasting keepsakes.
A Nest of Creativity
This piece radiates joy and whimsy. Created with paper plates, googly eyes, construction paper, and bright feathers, it depicts two baby birds in their nest. Every detail—from the textured cardboard “twigs” to the vibrant splashes of color—reflects a child’s uninhibited sense of play and creativity. These qualities make children’s art unique and precious, reminding us of the value of preserving not just the object, but also the story behind it.
Choosing the Perfect Frame
When framing children’s artwork, the goal is to balance protection with presentation. For this project, we chose a Larson Juhl Milo Maple frame on the outside, paired with a bold Larson Juhl Confetti Orange frame on the inside. The double-frame design adds depth and dimension, echoing the playful textures of the art itself. The maple brings warmth and sophistication, while the orange provides a pop of fun, tying the entire piece together.
Shadowbox Design for Depth
Because the artwork included three-dimensional elements like feathers and layered materials, a shadowbox design was essential. Shadowboxes create space for dimensional pieces to breathe, ensuring that every element—whether flat or raised—remains intact and visible. By carefully mounting the project within the frame, we ensured stability without altering or hiding any of the child’s original work.
Protection with Clarity
We finished the project with Museum Glass, which provides 99% UV protection and exceptional clarity. This ensures that the bright feathers and colorful paper remain as vivid as the day they were glued in place. Museum Glass also eliminates distracting glare, making it easy for the family to enjoy the artwork from any angle. Combined with archival backing, the piece is safeguarded against time and environmental damage.
A Lasting Gift of Love
The completed piece is more than framed art—it’s an heirloom of childhood creativity. For the grandmother, it is a joyful reminder of her grandchild’s imagination. For the child, it is validation that their creativity is cherished and worthy of celebration. Displayed proudly in the home, it becomes a family treasure that sparks conversations and memories for years to come.
At JW Frame Crafters, we believe children’s artwork deserves the same professional care as fine art. Each project carries meaning, and with thoughtful custom framing, those moments of creativity can live on across generations.
